In the historic center of the city is the Museum of the Arts of Catanzaro (MARCA), born in March 2008. A multifunctional museum center where different artistic situations coexist: from ancient art to contemporary language. A museum that looks to the future and where exhibitions of post-war masters are alongside those of the latest generation artists.
The palace, also equipped with an outdoor courtyard where art installations are housed, shows on the ground floor the collections of pictorial and plastic art of the heritage of the Province of Catanzaro: 120 works of paintings and sculptures, a permanent collection from XVI to XX century. Works include Antonello de Saliba, Mattia Preti, Francesco Jerace, Salvator Rosa.
Among the projects of contemporary art, the solo show dedicated to Alex Katz, Antoni Tapies, Enzo Cucchi. The permanent collection of contemporary art, in training, will be in close relation with the exhibitions.
Inside it is located China, the coffee bar created for the opening of the museum in 2008 by Flavio Favelli, and the bookshop created by Alessandro Mendini.
MARCA is also partner of Intersezioni, the contemporary sculpture project curated by Alberto Fiz since 2005, which takes place in summer at the Scolacium archaeological park.
